Our research focuses on different views concerning the relationship between politics and science/technology. Thematic priorities are energy, environment and sustainable development.

This is based on a broad foundation of culturalist theory and interactionist perspectives and further connected to current discourses on interpretive policy research, science and technology studies and affiliated to organisation studies.

Under the title "Governance in the making", we are currently working on a research approach that examines the link between politics and knowledge in the process of development. Thereby, we focus on the implementation of new political orders in relation to the establishment of new insights into politics. How are certain political coalitions and research fields intertwined in the process of formation and strengthening? This affects the distribution of individual policy instruments (e.g. emissions trading, transition management or consensus conferences), but also other political structural changes (such as the broadly described transformation from "government" to "governance"), or the establishment of new political entities (such as the European Union). In each case, the question of how to establish certain models and methods of policy are interwoven with the transformation and composition of political reality itself.

Ongoing research at the Chair is discussed in exchange with other research interests during the "politics, science  and technology colloquium."

Currently, the following lines of research are pursued
• Innovation in Governance
• Reflexive governance
• Socio-technical transitions
• Emerging research fields
